Liza was born in Lugansk, an eastern city in Ukraine. She began her study at the Lugansk National Agrarian University and received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Later, she continued her education at the Irkutsk State Agrarian University, Russia. During her Bachelor program, she studied the evolution of lilies, daylilies, orchids and other ornamental plants.

Liza is currently working on a Masters of Science in Plant Science at the U of S, in collaboration with GIFS under the supervision of Dr. Tim Sharbel. Together with post-doctoral fellow Dr. Martin Mau and technician Dr. Tiina Liiving, she investigates the spread of apomixis into sexual populations through a large scale intergeneric crossing assay.
