Primary Purpose
As a member of the GIFS and plant growth facilities team you provide technical support.  

Nature of the Work
Reporting to the Platform Lead, Research and Development Operations with day-to-day technical supervision by the Plant Growth Facilities Science Lead you will be proactive in delivering the necessary care for the plants in both greenhouses and growth chambers.  You will be part of the GIFS team and your work is highly interconnected with other programs within GIFS.  Work volume is high with a moderate degree of judgement required for day to day technical decision making.  The impact of error is moderate as it could result in lost time 

Accountabilities

  • Monitor and harvest plants, including pest management, clean seeds and maintain proper seed bank management.

  • Responsible for laboratory deliveries, supplies and maintenance of all PGF consumables inventory and equipment. 

  • As a team member you will assist in the training of GIFS employees and provide knowledge, technical support and space to new lab users, including postdocs and students.

  • Support the development of and adherence to standard operating procedures and laboratory and safety protocols, including the use of an electronic lab notebook.

  • Establish and maintain relationships throughout GIFS to promote interfacing with technology platforms and scientific programs.

  • Support clients e.g., consumable requirements, etc.

  • Engage in research projects and attend courses to advance professional development.

  • Other accountabilities as assigned.

Education & Experience 

  • Masters in horticulture science, plant biology, or agricultural biology preferred. 

  • Bachelors in a comparable field and at least two years of professional experience in research environments.
