Tiina began her career in Munich, Germany studying horticultural science with an emphasis on plant physiology and breeding.

After receiving a PhD in Gatersleben, Germany at the Leibniz Institute, Tiina deepened her knowledge in plant metabolism and methods in molecular biology.

As a research technician at GIFS, Tiina is working on a project on functional studies of apomixis. For this, she is aiding Masters student Lisa Fomenko to perform a large scale intergeneric crosses to investigate the spread of apomixis into sexual populations.

Tiina was born in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia and a harbor city which has shaped her view of the world.
