Pierre-Luc joined GIFS in as part of Leon Kochian’s team in 2017.

Pierre was born and raised in Bordeaux, France. After graduating from the University of Bordeaux with a Bachelor’s degree in Cellular Biology, Biochemistry and Human Physiology and a Master’s degree in Plant Biology and Biotechnology, he moved to Upstate New York to join Dr. Leon Kochian’s lab at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Here, Pierre worked on 2D and 3D imaging systems.  

Pierre’s research interests include plant physiology, the architecture of roots and the interesting challenges of root systems imaging.

For his Masters project, Pierre worked on a new root imaging tool at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA) with Dr. Jose Dinneny and Dr. Rubén Rellán-Álvarez.

At GIFS, Pierre is managing the Dr. Kochian lab and is a research technician. As part of this work, he is responsible for managing the day to day operation of the lab, purchasing and inventory as well as training new staff. He also provides support to GIFS postdoctoral fellows and Masters students working in the Roots research program by helping to coordinate and conduct experiments.
